In the literature, the name of Sipi Falls was often only associated with the main falls, which you can see in the picture above. However, I managed to go on a guided hike to further explore the area, and this led us to Sipi Falls’ other two impressive waterfalls. It turned out that visiting all three waterfalls involved a rather difficult 7km loop hike that was full of steep ascents and descents, flimsy ladders, flimsy catwalks, lots of farms, and lots of mud. This was especially the case since it had rained during the start of the hike.

Although it might have been possible to visit the other two waterfalls through a combination of driving and shorter walks (something I only found out about during the long hike), it has longer hike that’s more fulfilling.

Tour Plan

Day 1 : Trip to Sipi Falls

Start the Safari from Kampala in the morning driving towards eastern Uganda. Cross the mighty River Nile in Jinja, the longest river in Africa and continue on through a landscape of farmland. Lunch on arrival at your place of stay with a stunning view. In the afternoon go for a guided village walk and see how the locally grown Arabica coffee is processed. Relax for the rest of the evening as you watch the sun set on Mount Elgon. We shall lodge directly opposite the falls as we enjoy the sound of the ravaging water throughout the night.

Day 2 : Hike up the Three Series of Sipi Falls

After breakfast you set off for the highlight of the trip, a hiking experience to the three Sipi Falls. These are big water-falls and you will get a great view of them as well as get an up close experience so you can hear the roar of water and feel the water splashing on you! Abseil the major sipi falls and experience maximum adrenaline rush, this is an activity worth trying out. Head back to the lodge for lunch and watch the sun set in the evening.

Day 3 : Return Journey to Kampala

We shall have our breakfast and check out of our rooms, the guide/driver will then drive you to Mbale town for a mini tour after which you will head back to Kampala through Tororo town, take photographs of the rock and proceed to Jinja town where you will have lunch. Arrival in Kampala will be late afternoon.
